several new eye surgery techniques in Quebec and Canada.
A visionary and frontrunner in ophthalmic
surgery, Dr. Sam Fanous was in 1993 the

: implantation in the eye during cataract surgery
of the multifunctional lens that allows the patient
to see far and near.
In 1998, Dr. Sam Fanous became the

implantation of a contact lens in the eye. Thanks to this
revolutionary technique, patients with advanced myopia or
hyperopia, no longer need to wear glasses or contact lenses.

ophthalmologist in Canada to operate cataract patients
using laser. This new innovative technique allows
for a safer and more comfortable surgery.

by the American College of Eye Surgery for maintainig
a high level of excellence in cataract
surgery. Only one other Canadian surgeon received
a similair certificate in 1996. In March 2000, the same
College honoured Dr. Fanous for a second consecutive
year, for maintaining a high level of excellence in laser vision
correction (LASIK). Dr. Sam Fanous is the only Canadian
surgeon to receive such an award.
