Presbyopia and cataract ?
With age, the natural lens of the eye hardens, preventing the eye from focusing accurately. This marks the onset of presbyopia, which requires many people over the age of 40 to wear bifocal or reading glasses. Moreover, with age, the natural lens of the eye grows more opaque, leading to a gradual decrease in vision. This opacy of the natural lens is known as a cataract.

Presbyopic lens exchange (Prelex)

This procedure is suggested for patients 50 years old and over. It consists of replacing the hardened natural lens with an intraocular lens called the multifocal Array lens. This lens gives good vision at all distances : far, midrange and up close. Removing the natural lens of the eye eliminates the possibility of a future cataract.

Dr. Fanous was honored, in April 1999, by the American College of Eye Surgery for maintainig a high level of excellence in cataract surgery. A first in Quebec! And only the second  time that the American College has honored a Canadian surgeon.
