Glaucoma treatment

Eye drops are the most common treatment used to control pressure in the eye. However, when eye drops fail to limit the damage cuased by the pressure, other procedures could be considered:

  • Trabeculoplasty consists of treating the eye with Argon or Yag laser.

  • Trabeculectomy is a surgery that consists of making a small opening in the sclera to create a channel allowing excess fluid to leave the eye.

  • Sclerotomy is an innovative surgery that uses Excimer laser to sculpt the sclera. A miniscule drain, called Aqua Flow, is then implanted in order to facilitate the evacuation of the fluid from the eye. The fact that the eye is not penetrated considerably reduces the risk of complications and infections.

Did you know that...

Your risk of developing glaucoma is higher if you are over 50 years old, if you have myopia, diabetes, or if there is a history of glaucoma in your family.
