What
is macular degeneration?
Macular degeneration is a natural result of the aging process. With time, the
retinal cells in the macular area break down, leading to the dry form of macular
degeneration.
In the less common wet form, leaking blood and fluid
destroy the macula and reduce central vision.
What is diabetic retinopathy?
Diabetes may lead to the formation of abnormal blood
vessels in the retina. These fragile vessels rupture
easily, resulting in bleeding, swelling and destruction
of retinal tissue. |
