First, the epithelium is removed. The laser
is then used to reshape the cornea (1).
In PRK, a contact lens is placed
over the eye for a few days while it heals (2). This technique is only performed on patients that are not
good candidates for LASIK.
** The goal of any refractive procedure is to
reduce your dependence on glasses. After surgery, you may still
need to wear glasses for some activities.
Although complications are rare, they can never be ruled out
completely. Possible complications include reduced vision,
halos around lights, infection, inflammation and dry eyes.
